How do you set up LK8000 to work with Condor? XCSoar was fairly intuitive. LK8000 is not.

John,

Assuming you're using LK8000 on PC, you'll need to:
1. create a virtual COM port to carry the Condor data feed to the LK8000 software - I use Eterlogic's Virtual Serial Ports Emulator (VSPE) - http://www.eterlogic.com.
2. add that COM port to Condor's setup
3. add that COM port to LK8000 setup
4. confirm that the COM port you choose does not clash with an existing COM port.

Important that the COM port is opened before Condor is opened, otherwise Condor will not necessarily use that same COM port.

I use Condor2Nav to convert Condor Flight Plans to LK8000 format - https://sourceforge.net/projects/condor2nav/. I run Condor 1.n and Condor 2.n on the same PC but getting Condor2Nav to export flight plans for use in Condor 2 is still a work-in-progress.

The problem with running LK8000 on the same PC as Condor is that switching away from Condor to LK8000 leaves Condor in 'ghost' mode - it continues in what ever attitude you left it - no sound, no control - auto-pilot is the only solution. I have used an Android tablet to run LK8000 and a TCP/IP (ie. local network) connection from my Condor PC to my LK8000 tablet. There's a few special bits of software required to do this but it worked really well until I killed my tablet (unrelated) and haven't bothered to replace it. This configuration meant I had full control over Condor whilst interacting with LK8000. I think there are instructions on this Forum for this setup - perhaps a post from 2016'ish?

Also, in LK8000 it helps a lot to have the correct glider selected and matching ballast. Condor and LK8000 glider flight dynamics and predictions differ by about 2% as a rough guess which is excellent - but you need to be attentive on final glide because LK8000 model for predicting arrival height differs from Condor - often markedly (there's probably a setting to match them up - total energy for example).

Hope that helps

Greg

It's step 3 that is throwing me. I currently do 1 and 2 for XCSoar using VSPE. I should check if there is a kindle version of LK8000.

Thanks for all the rest of the information too!

Ah yes John

Using LK8000 version 5.0...

1. Config option 2/3 (Screen 2 of 3 screens)
2. "LK8000 Setup"
3. "Device Setup" (top left screen)
4. "Device A" - Port = [your COM port choice]

That might do it.

If there's a Kindle version I'm right onto it - that'd be perfect.

Cheers
Greg
